A few swatches for the new collection... I was inspired by Nick Caves hair sound suits, plant cells, old scientific american magazine images, and intense colors.

Finally blogging again! Recently shot the spring 11 lookbook at Rus Anson's Studio! Can't wait to show you the end result. We had fun with projecting some prints that I ended up not using. Thanks to everyone that helped build the balloon wall! Sorry Liz! I know you wanted to take the balloons home. Special thanks to Rus, Sharon, Katie, Nancy, Cera, Liz, Gabe, Geneva, and Suzy. Would not be possible without you! Missed you Rebecca! We had a amazing team.

I just finished shooting fall 2010 a couple weeks ago. I had a really great experience working with the talented crew that put it all together. Thanks also to Rebecca Goldschmidt, Rebecca Butz, Tessa Watson, and Bill Gray! ALSO thank you Brain Crumley! I'm really excited to collaborate with Brian for the up-coming fall 2010 collection. He makes beautiful silk covered chains, hand-carved wood bangles, and other beaded jewelry and accessories. More images to come!

It was an amazing experience and space to work in. I am attaching some behind the scenes pictures of all the people that put together the amazing pictures.

Jane D'Arensbourg studio visit

It has been a while since I have had a chance to blog. Time flies by so quickly! I am already in the middle of designing fall. Excited to see what happens.
I also had the chance to visit Jane D'arensbourg's studio last month in Brooklyn. Jane has all of her colorful pyrex glass and ceramic necklaces hanging on display. I took these pictures last September when I was in NYC.

Jane is the nicest person! I really enjoyed seeing her art studio. It was very inspiring to see her artwork, jewelry and other projects she is working on. Seeing an artists work space is always inspiring. Enjoy the pictures. Thanks Jane!

Spring 10 & printing in action...

We recently shot spring 2010 this last weekend. I really enjoyed the team I worked with. Ben Mayorga was the photographer and Sharon Maloney was the stylist. Can't wait to share the pictures!

I also borrowed some jewelry from Brian Crumley. Brian often combines printed silks and chains, hand carved wooden bangles, and combines magical glass baubles that are suspended on his signature heavy duty links . They are exquisitely crafted and have wonderful hand and weight that give the jewelry a presence. I love jewelry that feels good on you. "Brian continues to explore his passion for abstracting form and function, allowing the medium to influence his design. He is creating a new graphic language, a compilation of graphic design and sculptural form. His designs are bold, clean, and always chic."

Working on Spring 10! Just burned some new screens for hand-printing this weekend. Excited to see how they turn out. These are the actual screens in the dark room and back lit. More to come...

If you are in the San Francisco bay area stop by the art studio in the mission @ 724 Valencia at 18th street from noon until 8:00 this Saturday 6/13. My husband will be showing his new ceramics and our good friend Armando Ramos will be selling some of his sculptures see below. I will be selling my spring line and scarves....

My husband Gabriel's ceramics have not been glazed yet. They are being fired today! You can get an idea of his work below.

Gabe runs the ceramics/sculpture studio at the San Francisco Art Institute. Gabe has been working on this old kiln for the past few months. He finally got it working. I can't mention its nickname? Too many dirty words!

I am very excited to be in the Polish lifestyle magazine :pianamagazine.com. I am included in the USA edition for May and one of the featured fashion designers. Other designers featured: Yelena Konovalova's line Cut-It-Out. Yelena is a Russian born designer who now lives and in New York. She creates her prints from cut out paper designs. Her current lighthearted collection of limited edition pieces was inspired by Russian folk art and pagan fairytales. Thanks Jagna!

I was thrilled to hear that Maria Cornejo was in town! Maria was at MAC tuesday night to discuss her line and meet local fans. I have always wanted to meet her. Maria was charming and easy to talk to. She was one of the first designers I admired when I was a student at Parsons. While living in NYC I would wander into her nolita store. Maria always had unusual shapes and amazing geometry designed into her clothing.

I recently visited my father in the suburbs of Seattle. He is a collector of sorts and an artist. He is a self taught artist and has been making work for the past 15 years. Artwork is hanging everywhere! Even in the bathroom! Photographs and rare old books are stacked high in piles. I did not have time to steal his good books. I took photos of my favorites.

Below is a picture of my grandmother in a really cool frame with a collage in the background that my dad made.

I guess you can say he is also a bit of a hippy. One of his favorite posters in the guestroom.

Images from a book my dad found recently. I think it was a student collaboration (reed college in California) from the early 1960's-70's. Below are a couple of pictures that were in the book. It is full of hand calligraphy, poems, photos, and artwork.

I can't believe it is yet another year and a new collection of prints!
I dug deep into my old boxes of photocopies and random inspiration. I have always loved the photocopier. I love to distort, blow up and morph images. I am currently cutting paper shapes and creating collages for my new designs.

Patchwork, quilting, rugs, and geometry back to my textile roots!

One of the many interesting images from my favorite book: Soviet Costumes and textiles 1917-1945. I love all the prints!

A LITTLE HELP FROM SOME FRIENDS:

I was recently mentioned in the New York Times blog T. MAC: Modern Appealing Clothing based in Hayes valley had a nice article written up about them and mentioned Serial Cultura. MAC is a great store (my favorite!!!) and run by amazing people! Ben and Chris Ospital are very kind and supportive of local artists and designers. They also have amazing international designers and some of my favorites such as Tsumori Chisato, Zucca, and Martin Margiela. How flatterning for my line to hang with the best! I would love to feature and meet the stylish people out there that own a Serial Cultura garment. Rachel Hayes is a good friend of mine. We studied Textiles/Fiber at the Kansas City Art Institute. She is now living with her Husband (a painter) in NYC. She makes amazing installations with plastic, fabric, and vinyl. Eric her husband is also talented painter. I love their work! New digital print for Fall 2009. I love this print. It is one my main prints in the fall collection. Can't wait for the pictures. This design is based off a very large collage I made. More to come....
